An Evening Swim

Summer is here in Spain, it's hot, and  pool playdates are a must now!  The other day we had some friends over and had a great time letting the kids swim.  Claire though just wanted to be around mommy and the ladies and didn't do much in the water.  That night we were outside and Claire went running to the pool and jumped in (clothes and all) so I guess she was just waiting till the older kids were out and for her own private pool party with her favorite friends, Drew....

Yap.... she laid right down and could care less about being a girl in a dress!
It then turned into a full fledge water party and Andy fired up the sprinklers!  Drew in his undies;)

How I love summer and the 8pm water dips!

Tumbling Performance

Drew has been in Tumbling once a week for the past year and every few months the class has a performance.  My friend Jen is the teacher and Drew loves the class!  Drew was so cute and did such a great job.  Each child took a turn and would come out and perform a skill and everytime Drew was up he would look at us and smile the entire time!  Afterwards we wend out for pizza with our neighbors to celebrate his big performance!

Still making sure were looking...

Hmmmm?

I love looking back on photos and comparing Drew and Claire at each age and their looks (they were both born May two years apart). Here's a picture of Drew at a year and one of Claire at a year!

Andy gives the kids tub every night and the other night I walked by and saw that Andy had done Claire's hair....  it cracked me up as he did this and didn't even know I was there watching!

I love the age that Drew and Claire are at!  There now playing together and making each other laugh all day long!

The other day we had a grill out in our back yard and sat up the slip n slide.  The kids loved it (minus the face we don't have a hill in our backyard...) We had to drag them off it at 8pm!
Drew and the ladies!
Claire eating corn on the cob for the first time!

Swim Lessons!

This past week Drew started swim lessons here on base.  The lessons are contracted out by Camp Adventure a program that I use to participate in when I was in colllege.  The head quarteers to this program are based out of my college at UNI as well!  When I told one of the girls that I use to do Camp A, and now have kids in it she replied back, "WOW you must have done camp SOOOOOO long ago"!  Yap, I felt old after that!  Any who.... the program is great and Drew loves his teacher!  He's already imporved after the first week!

Claire keeps mommy busy in the baby pool while Drew is in lessons!
Drew and his teacher Mrs. Buttercup (they all have Poderpuff names)

Always with a BIG jump in!

Dining Out

On Friday night we attened the Navy tradition of a dining out.  Here is the skinny on the history of a Dining Out to explain the photos below....
Since the beginning of organized society, there has been a military establishment. Today, our sophisticated multi-service military observes many customs, traditions, and procedures traceable to the earliest of warriors. The dining-in as a military tradition has its roots in the shadow of antiquity. The pre-Christ Roman Legions probably began the dining-in tradition. Roman military commanders frequently held great banquets to honor individuals and units. These gatherings were victory celebrations during which past feats were remembered and the booty of recent conquests was paraded. The second century Viking War Lords stylized the format of the victory feast. "These celebrations saw all clan members present with the exception of the lookout, or watch. Feats of strength and skill were performed to entertain the members and guests. The leader took his place at the head of the board, with all others to his right and left in descending order of rank."

From the northlands, the custom was transplanted to the British Islands. In the sixth century, King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table surely practiced a form of dining-in. One author suggests that in sixth century England the tradition spread to the nonmilitary society. "Its roots are embedded in the old monasteries where monks, who followed a most rigid regimen, had their form of dining-in as an integral form of monastic life." As educators, the clergy spread the custom to the academies and universities. The British officer corps comprised of those graduated from the centers of learning then carried the tradition to military units. The dining-in became increasingly formalized after the first officers' mess was established.

The party was held out in town at a beautiful hotel on the beach

Our good friends here Heather and Tristin

The party starts out in the court yard and once the bag pipes are played you have to hustle in to find your seat.  The key to this is to use the restroom before as one will have to request a leave chit to use the potty and who knows if it will be approved!  Above is the bag pipe player playing before everyone sits down!
There was bread throwing, nurf guns.. this is my type of party!
This is called the grog.... if anyone breakes any of the rules then they are sent to the front of the room and they have to drink a cup full of this salute the bowl, drink the  mystery juice, put the empty cup on your head to show it's all gone, and salute the bowl again.

There are lists and lists of just fun silly rules that can't be broken and if a rule is broken you can call someone out on it!

Another part of the Dining Out tradition is saying goodbye to the one's that are PCSing (moving).  Our friend Ben was dressed up as the XO of the base intimidating him as part of a skit of having him leave.
We had  a great time and this is one Navy tradion that we are a big fan of!

Randomness

Andy is getting his spanish fishing license here and took his poles out yesterday to practice casting. Drew loved it and is so excited for their boy trips ahead!

Kiddos excited to see daddy home from work!

So the other day I head Drew and Claire cracking up laughing in Drew's room.  I snuck in there and found Drew jumping on his bed and Claire climed a stool to cheer him on!

Papa and Mimi sent Drew an Iron Man mask for his birthday that lights up and talks!  Drew LOVES it and wears it for everything, including horse rides!

Nerja Camping Trip

Over Memorial Day weekend we took a camping trip about three hours away to a town called Nerja (which became our new favorite spanish town). The camp sites here are different then the sates as their is a pool at the sites, a bar and resturant,  and fire's aren't allowed.  We really enjoy camping though and the people are always great.  Here in Spain you have about two seasons to go camping... fall and then spring as the summers are sooooo hot and the winters are a little to cool with the kiddos and no fire.  Drew and Claire had a blast and were able to get as dirty as they wanted!!!  They slept great with all of the fresh air!

As you can see with two kiddos it isn't exactly "back pack" camping!!!  Claire thought this was HilAriOus!

We had an awesome campsite with great shade!

On our way to walk in caves!!

The world LARGEST stalactites are located here in Nerja!

This was the beach in Nerja, it was just beautiful and the water was sooo clean!

Claire couldn't take it any more and needed her siesta!

Enjoying some breakfast!

I took Claire with me to wash out some dishes and while I was gone dad was letting Drew hang from this branch.  Drew asked Andy to do it again and Andy said wait for mom to get back so we can show her.  Drew replied with, "No let's not show mom, cause she'll freak out"!!!

And Drew continued on to climb more trees.  It's such a toss up who will be our first ER visit.. Drew or Claire???

Dad and Claire having a heart to hear talk..

It was a great camping trip and look forward to the one next fall when it's not over 100*!
